Tom was taking a break for it all. He didn’t feel back about that. He was working hard, had been working hard for years. He enjoyed where his career was at, somewhere he never dreamed, but secretly hoped it would be at. Now was some time for him. Time to find Tom again, reconnect with friends, catch up with family. Maybe even fix the leaky kitchen sink.
He knew it was coming, and he actually wasn’t dreading it this time. He had gone to have brunch with one of his friends, the one that now that his biological clock was satiated, he must make sure his friends’ where too. Since it was such a nice feeling of calm for him to have. In the past if he had come and sat down, and been given the look he was, he would a bit tiredly have said it. But this time it was relaxed, and curious. “Just tell me who it is Ben.”
To this his friend chuckled, was he that predictable? “Right to business as always Tom. No lets order first I am famished.”
Tom shook his head, but where before it would be I want to get this over with. Now it was just amusement. It made him realize just how little time he allowed himself to relax, and just enjoy whatever life would throw at him, or Ben.
Soon they were eating and talking. “Oh you will adore her. She is a bit off, but in the best ways.”
“Like the last one?” Tom said looking at his friend. Amused as he started to jump to his own defense.
“Hey that one is on you mate. I didn’t set you up with them.”
To this Tom give him a grin. “It did get you to stop until I took some time off.” He saw Ben swallow hard.
Ben’s tone was apologetic. “I didn’t mean to push. I just don’t like the thought of you being lonely. You deserve to find the happiness that I have found. And if I can help in that matter, if I have the power to. Then I would be doing you and injustice as your friend to without that from you.”
“I know, so how am I going to get into contact with her. Or is she going to magically pop up here.” Tom said trying to help his friend move past.
“If it is ok, I will give her your phone number, you two can set something up. Since I apparently am a horrible date planner.” Ben said chuckling at how many times it has gone wrong.
“Yeah, it will give me time to screen to see if she is worth a date.” Tom said remembering the last one Ben set him up with. She was pretty enough, but couldn’t carry on an intelligent conversation to save her life.
“Fair enough, and you must come over for dinner sometime. Chris is taking where his Tom monster is.” Ben said chuckling.
To this Tom agreed, and both men enjoyed a nice afternoon talking about anything but work. After both men embracing. Tom making a few stops, before heading home, and getting comfortable with the book he had been reading.
The buzzing of his phone to signify he had a message, caused him to jump a bit, but he picked up the phone to see who messaged him.
